Oldhead Leaving Christian Hip Hop and Going Secular???

Published by Eric Davis aka OLDHEAD on Friday,

I've been in the music industry/music almost my whole life. 1999 is the year I got saved and introduced to JESUS CHRIST. I knew instantly that I was called to do music in a revolutionary way. With no mentors and very little guidance in the music business, I hit the ground running. I moved to Nashville when I was 25 with plans to expand my dreams, calling and the music I was blessed with. I can honestly say my motives were pure and all I wanted to see was the kingdom of GOD being advanced. When I first started going to the GMA'S, Verbs and Phanatik expressed to me not to "get sucked into the machine. " I got the gist of what they were saying but did not have the full understanding of what the "machine" was. Welcome to Nashville's Christian industry!

Since I've been in the Christian industry I have experienced the bad, the ugly and the worst. I've seen Christians do bad business and manipulate scripture to get what they want from people. I have seen a lack of character and integrity. I have seen Christian artists getting drunk, having casual sex outside of marriage, adultery and entertaining groupies. Overall, one of the biggest disappointments was witnessing how prejudice Christians and Christian artists can be. You've got Christian Contemporary Music (which is predominantly white people) and you have Black Gospel (which is predominantly African-American). This is modern day segregation. This is the state of the so called "Church." I have seen artists and ministers form cliques and talk badly about each others form of ministry. I have seen openly homosexual men and women in places of leadership. As well, men who abuse their wives are in places of church leadership. I have seen the most disrespectful "hollywood" people in church and in the Christian industry.

Lord knows, I have never seen so many lazy - don't want to get a job folks - in my life, until I got saved. If you desire to do full time ministry, well "minister" some character and integrity to yourself first. It seems that it rarely exists that people keep their word and stay loyal. I thought we were suppose to be praying for one another and covering each other? The same people who will show up for their own shows to get paid, you wont find at prayer meetings. I have had people ask me how much I charge for shows and guest appearances, for them only to get mad at the answer. They want you to bless them with a free verse but sell their CD for $10.00 to $15.00. Meanwhile, they have uncleared samples on songs and no bar codes on their CDs. Without these things it ultimately amounts to stealing.

I have seen artists/ministers preach against each other and divide the people of GOD'S Kingdom. I have seen artist/ministers switch up their calling and change who they are so that caucasian churches or mega churches will book them. I have seen a lot of African-American churches spend millions of dollars on a building and spend nothing on providing a full-time Youth and Children's Mnistry. Some of these same churches don't even have an area for the youth to meet. It seems that with these leaders trying to please everybody and have the "new" thing, that their family lives often take the hardest of blows. Them desiring to be so well known ends up with their own kids not knowing who their parents are. The thing that hurts the most is GOD'S people have left Him and abandoned their communities.

I am not mad or bitter by any means. I'm just hurt! While we are busy people pleasing, people are dying and not knowing our savior JESUS CHRIST. Which brings me to my conclusion.

Through being humbled by the hand of GOD and by a series of events. I realized I have been a people pleaser myself. GOD has called me to the mainstream/world to minister to the brokenness of the industry/unchurched. I have been such a hypocrite walking around with titles so I can be accepted by the church because I was born different and called to be different. I am taking the titles off. No more "Christian Artist," "Christian Rapper" or none of that. I am just an artist.

No I am not leaving GOD nor my faith in JESUS CHRIST. I am just switching lanes to the mainstream. My focus will be to the streets, clubs, schools systems, suburbs, communities and anywhere lost people are. I will still minister/perform at churches if they book me but that will not be my focus. I feel like I owe it to my supporters, and fans to let them know which direction GOD JESUS CHRIST is taking me.

I'll leave you with this quote: "If we had no titles or could not tell anybody that we were a Christian. Would people be able to tell we were Christian by our lifestyle?"

P. S: Majority of what GOD did and the miracles that took place were outside of the four walls of the church.

Vatican Approves Tupac's Song "Changes"

here's what we were talking about Sat Dec 5th,
holla back and let us know what you think....

By Roman Wolfe
The Vatican has released its list of favorite songs for MySpace’s new streaming service MySpace Music, which launched today (December 3). Surprisingly, one of the 12tracks is Tupac Shakur’s song “Changes,” which was released in 1998 on Shakur’s Greatest Hits album, which was released in 1998.

“The genres are very different from each other, but all these artists share the aim to reach the heart of good minded people,” The Vatican wrote on its official MySpace Music page.

The list was compiled by Father Giulio Neroni, artistic director for St. Paul’s Multimedia, a church publisher.

Tupac’s track is included alongside artists like Mozart, Dame Shirley Bassey, Fleet Foxes and Pope Benedict XVI himself.

The entire list is below:
1. Advocata Nostra – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI.
2. Uprising – Muse. Single from the album, The Resistance.
3. Causa Nostrae Laetitiae – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater.
4. Il Mare Mi Salva – Rossomalpelo. Song from the band led by contemporary Italian singer songwriter Serge Gaggiotti
5. After The Rain – Dame Shirley Bassey. From the album The Performance.
6. Coexist – Nour Eddine. Song from Moroccan Musician, based in Italy.
7. Don Giovanni – Mozart.
8. Rafaele Merry Del Val – Lorenzo Perosi Inni Mottetti e Canzoni, Pablo Colino & Coro Academica Filarmonica Romana.
9. He Doesn't Know Why – Fleet Foxes.
10. Changes – Tupac Shakur.
11. Regina Coeli – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater.
12. Mi sarete Testimoni – Santo Subito! (DVD). Music DVD embodying the voice and image of The Pope.

The STRIP CLUB is having a toy drive...Where is the church???

HERE'S ANOTHER DISCUSSION FROM THE SHOW

THEY SAY A PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 WORDS,

I wanna hear what all the listeners think about this
holla back!

Jay Z says 'Jesus Can't Save You' On His New Album, What Are You Doin Everyday To Disprove This Statement

Here is one of the topics we have discussed on the show and We wanna hear from you and what you think, holla back....

I got this text that read: A quote from Jay-Z, Blueprint 3 album, Song: Empire State of Mind, 'Jesus Can't save You, life Starts When the Church Ends.' "What are you doing everyday to disprove this quote?"

Now let me say a few things here, and all may not agree, but I want to get a few things off my chest. I have to admit I've been busy doing what God called me to do, so I hadn't heard the song yet. And had the text come from a few others in the Christian hip-hop game I may not have taken it as seriously, because of their views on things. But this is a brother I know to be filled with the Spirit and who takes it to the street and really lives like many of us claim we do.

But unlike most people, even when a reliable person like M.A.J.O.R.S. shares something like this, instead of running with it we first must look into it for ourselves. So I looked up the lyrics to the song. Now let me say I'm a die hard New Yorker who lived that Empire State of Mind to the fullest. I am a confessed hip-hop junkie and also someone who feels Jay Z carried New York on his back and held it down for us when Biggie died. Even though I questioned a lyric or two, I basically rode with Jigga. Now I painted that picture so when I say the next part you understand who its coming from. Not someone that finds conspiracy theories in every lyric and demonic spirits in every rapper. I'm not saying it's not okay to listen to secular music, I'm not saying all hip-hop is bad. I'm also not going to jump on the band wagon that says one artists makes the whole genre evil...I do say be careful what you allow your ears to hear and your eyes to see, but hear me on this.

If we call ourselves a Children of God, we must step up when anyone, even an artist we feel, says anything negative against our Lord. We can no longer just sit back and let these lyrics go unchecked as our children and those who don't have a relationship with the King digest this message.

Lights is blinding, girls need blinders
so they can step out of bounds quick,
the side lines is blind with casualties, who sipping life casually,
then gradually become worse,
don’t bite the apple Eve,
caught up in the in crowd,
now your in-style,
and in the winter gets cold en vogue with your skin out,
the city of sin is a pity on a whim,
good girls gone bad, the cities filled with them,
Mommy took a bus trip and now she got her bust out,
everybody ride her, just like a bus route,
Hail Mary to the city your a Virgin,
and Jesus can’t save you life starts when the church ends,
came here for school, graduated to the high life,
ball players, rap stars, addicted to the limelight,
MDMA got you feeling like a champion,
the city never sleeps better slip you a Ambien
[Chorus]In New York,
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There's nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
these streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you
lets here it for New York, New York, New York...
- Empire State Of Mind- Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys

We can no longer sit back and complain to each other about the evils in hip-hop, pop culture, television, movies and the media and not go out equally as strong with the message of the Good News of our God, of our Savior. We can no longer sit back and wait for others to do something about it. So I agree with my brother M.A.J.O.R.S. This is not a slam Jay Z post but a battle cry to all those who call themselves Children Of God, to go out in the streets and teach the truth. We have set back for far too long waiting on our preachers to save the world, when the great commission orders all of us to take Gods Word to the streets. So after this lengthy rant I leave you with this thought; It's one thing to hear something and look the other way, not play it, not buy it, not support it, but as M.A.J.O.R.S. asked in his text this morning, "What are you doing everyday to disprove this quote?"

I add, not just this quote but everything that speaks against our Savior. We must re-present Christ to the world, because many don't know Him and have only heard statements like the one in this song. So long as no one challenges that, that is what they believe. The truth is, there is no situation where Christ can't save you, if you come to Him, honestly, humbly and ask for forgiveness of your sins. He died on the Cross and paid the price for sin which is eternal death, so we could have an intimate relationship with HIM and eternal life. Are you out in the streets, the highways and the bi-ways, the hood and other places where healing is needed? Are you taking the Good News to the lost and those who don't have a relationship with Christ? Are you introducing your friends who don't believe to Christ?

Well if the answer is no, you can no longer sit back and complain that Jay Z or anyone else said something about Christ, if you are not out there teaching the truth. I apologize for the rant, you know ya boy got a big mouth but I felt very passionate about this and had to share it and want to hear from everyone. Each and everyone of you whether you believe what I believe or not. I want to hear from you!
